Space law
For this assignment, we had to find a case that dealt with space laws and ended in some kind of judgment. There aren't many laws regarding outer space, so there were a select amount of cases. The one I have chosen involves a man from Quebec declaring himself the owner of the planets in our solar system, as well as 4 of Jupiter's moons and the space in between. Of course, the judge overseeing the case dismissed it and the man was left empty-handed. His reasoning behind the suit was to "prevent China from establishing outposts above his head." The case took place in January of 2012.
The law that was put into effect states that no one can claim a heavenly body. If this law was not in practice, I'm sure countries would have claimed each planet by now.

conclusion
With the way humanity is these days, without space laws people would get greedy and try to claim every single star or planet in our solar system.
