Design Brief
Research
There was no research done in this project.
Brainstorming
This project was a lot of trail and error. Many designs were tested and, while some were close, all of them ended in failure besides the final.
Modifications
As previously stated, there were many designs tested. Modifications that were made in order to get the final product include changing the materials used in the bars as well as the area used.
Final Design
Justification
The darker members (shown above) are made of steel - a heavier material that provides more support. The lighter members are hollow tube, which are cheaper but support less weight.

Conclusion Questions
1.) The type and direction of stress applied affect the selection of material type and cross-sectional area because the material selected needs to be able to support the weight of stress. Hollow tubes don't support as much stress as the steel bars do.
2.) Compression and tension balance each other out, creating equilibrium and providing a stable bridge.
