- Safety and Legal Issues: The toothbrush and floss must meet legal requirements and be safe for use by children and adults. (PFC free and not a choking hazard for small children)
- Customer Needs: durable, efficient toothbrush that contains needed amount of floss for 100 days (50 yds).
- Performance: Must be able to perform specified task (teeth brushing and dispensing floss) efficiently
- Product Life: Must be able to last 3 to 4 months (roughly 100 days)
- Service Life: 3 to 4 months
- Global Environment: Uses the least amount of plastic possible
- Operating Environment: Must prevent ware when used for brushing (dry, clean environment)
- Materials: Must be relatively simple material wise, consisting of probably around five different materials from plastic to a floss material.
- Aesthetics: Must be moderately appealing to consumers, not bulky or unfamiliarly shaped.
- Target cost: Must be able to compete with existing market of toothbrushes cost wise and efficiency (cost the same and work just as well)
- Size and Weight: Must not be too heavy or large compared to existing toothbrushes (roughly same weight, just includes added floss weight)
- Durability: Will not need replaceable parts, tools required to make should be easily accessible, probably will require a drill.
Constraints:
- Time: around two to three weeks to make product
- Materials: some unique materials of toothbrushes are difficult to make but can be acquired.
- Efficiency: determining that the product actually serves its purposes of properly brushing one's teeth, lasting 3 to 4 months, containing easily accessible floss that functions as expected.
